Real Food

Aiden has lately taken a huge interest in his baby doll, Claire. He sleeps with her, pushes her around in the shopping cart, and lays her down for naps in my bed. As he lays her down he informs Kiera and me that we need to be very quiet because baby Claire is sleeping.

Yesterday, baby Claire became an official member of our family because she needed to eat with us at supper. Now, this has happened before, but eating with us meant that she had to be close to the table. Maybe in the shopping cart, or maybe just laying on top of the table in a safe place so she wouldn't get dirty. But yesterday, baby Claire had to sit in a booster seat, right next to Aiden. AND, baby Claire, according to Aiden, needed to eat, "real food." Now, we asked Aiden what she should have, and he kept repeating, "real food." We got her a bowl out, set it in front of her, and said that we could pretend that baby Claire had peaches or pears. But no, that was not good enough, she had to have, "real food." I got out a little container of applesauce, left the lid on, and set it in front of baby Claire. That still wasn't good enough. She needed to eat what Aiden was eating and Aiden was going to feed her.

Finally, at my wits end, I got the bowl back out, and we put 3 of Aiden's grapes in the bowl and put it in front of baby Claire. Aiden was extremely happy, and proudly fed baby Claire her "real food."

Kind of on the same note, the other day Aiden informed me, "Mommy, when I'm a grown up, I'll be a Daddy." I was amused and said, "Oh really? You would like that, huh?" He said, "And that would make Daddy a Grandpa!" HA!
