On Wednesday night we went downtown to enjoy the festivities of Rochesterfest. It was Family Fun Night, so the area was dedicated to kids! We first enjoyed some of the tasty food that is a must at Rochesterfest. Cheesy fresh cut fries, gyros, fajitas, and Dippin' Dots. We'll come back to the Dippin' Dots later. After sampling all of the delicious food, we stood in line for the train ride. Aiden was very excited and I wasn't worried about him. But this was Kiera's first ride on the train and I was wondering how she would handle one of the Rochesterfest big MALE workers putting her in and out of her train car. Finally it was our turn, and she looked a little concerned as one of the guys picked her up and placed her in her car, but all was well. The kids both loved the train ride and Aiden especially liked watching the conductor.
Another favorite activity is putting out fires with the firemen. The firemen have their hoses hooked up and the kids get to go help spray a house that is "on fire." Aiden went first and got a huge kick out of it. He gave the fireman a high five and had the biggest grin on his face afterward. Kiera was next, and as I was walking up to the fireman with her, she screamed, "AHHHHHHHHHHH" and clung to me for dear life. So, we immediately turned around and went out. Maybe next year she will be ready. :) Of course, we don't have any pictures of either Aiden or Kiera with the firemen because Josh wasn't able to get to a good spot fast enough. It really all went so fast that he didn't have a chance.
Now, for the Dippin' Dots. Before we left for home, we thought we would have a nice ice cream snack after the full evening of activities. We decided to try out the Dippin's Dots. These are tiny little balls (or dots) of ice cream that they fill into a cup. Kiera has never had them before and we told her she was getting ice cream, which she is all about! Now, the texture for Dippin' Dots is a little different, (they are dots, you know) and sometimes they can stick a little to you like a dry ice cube can stick to your tongue. I gave her the first bite, which she took with great excitement, and suddenly her eyes got huge and she stuck out her little tongue with all the Dippin' Dots stuck to it. She shook her head no and started saying, "Uhhhhhhhh!" We finally convinced her that it was ice cream and it was okay to eat. I think that it helped that they started melting on her tounge and she got a taste of the yumminess. Once she realized that it was indeed ice cream, she ate the rest of her snack with great vigor! She isn't one to say no to sweets for too long!
