Snow Day

On Friday it was terribly cold, but the kids really wanted to play out in the snow. They kept begging, and I kept telling them that it really was too cold to go out. Until I was struck with a brainstorm. I told the kids to get their mittens, and then I loaded them up with measuring cups, shovels, and other assorted cups and Rubbermaid containers. I grabbed a couple of garbage bags and we headed downstairs to our unfinished basement. I didn't let the kids in on my plan and they were beside themselves. They kept asking what we were doing, and I told them it was a surprise. I left them downstairs and said I would be back in a couple of minutes with their surprise. Meanwhile, the kids got on their mittens. Aiden and Kiera both decided they needed their snow hats as well, and Kiera even put on her boots. When I came back downstairs, they were waiting anxiously and I set down three ice cream containers full of fresh white snow! They were super excited and played for a long time with the snow! It was a really fun activity and the kids are asking when we can have our next snow day!

Jadyn, Aiden, and Kiera picking up their first handfuls of snow!

Scooping and shoveling the snow! How do you like those Cars slippers! :)

Aiden was making snow pie.

"Mommy, this is fun!"

Jadyn is measuring some snow out for her snow tea.

"Mmmmmm.....snow tastes good!"
"Oh, hi mom!" Check out that guilty look when I caught her eating the snow. I laughed and laughed and told her it was okay to try a little one time. I don't think that she actually has ever tasted snow before!

Aiden needed to try some too!

Showing off the snowball he made. Then he proceeded to throw it at a very unprepared me. He has really good aim! I got hit right in the chest!

Kiera is filling up her container one last time before clean up!

How fun! You are so creative--I don't think I would have come with such a great idea. Let's hope for warmer days, though--huh?
