Owen's baptism

Owen's baptism was filled with what you would probably call normal events for a family with 3 children. We made it to church just on time, NOT early like I would have liked, but not late either! :) We made it to our reserved pew in the very front row, with the little bags that the church has to keep children busy during the service. To my relief, Owen is sleeping, Aiden is busy checking out his bag o' goodies, and Kiera got busy finding the crayons in the bag and started coloring on the paper provided.

The service started and before we had a chance to truly get settled in, the pastor called us up to start the baptism. We all go up to stand in front of the baptismal fount. We were trying to quietly keep Aiden from talking and asking many loud questions, and we were trying to keep Kiera from running around the aisles like a wild child. Owen, blessedly, was still sleeping.

All of a sudden, I realize Kiera is standing right beside the baptismal fount, holding a pink crayon, looking at us with the devil's light in her impish blue eyes, and proceeds to swipe at the fount with the said pink crayon. Since I was holding the still sleeping Owen, I nudged Josh, whispering to stop our daughter. She tries to make a run for it, Aiden turns into Mr. Mom and loudly starts telling Kiera what to do (or not to do), and all the while the pastor is continuing on with the baptism ceremony that we are truthfully paying little attention to.

Finally, Josh is able to pick up our squiggly little Miss Kiera, Aiden decides it may be best to keep his opinions quiet after a "look" from me, and the still sleeping Owen is passed to the pastor so he can have the holy water poured down over his head.

Then after a few more brief moments, our time in the spotlight was over and we were able to take our seats at the front of the church. Thankfully, the rest of the service was completed without much incident. Kiera made another break for it, but only to the pew behind us where Grandpa and Grandma were sitting. Aiden only forgot to use a whispering voice a couple more times. Owen slept.

We had a good day overall. I wonder what it will be like when Owen doesn't sleep??

Big props to you for keeping it all together during the service! I found this story hilarious, although I'm sure the pink crayon was not all that funny at the time...
